We publish 160 brands across eleven categories of expensive home purchase. For every one of them we try to put a sourced, dated price on the page, with the link we read it from. We managed it for 145. For 15 we could not find a public figure anywhere, so the page says so rather than guessing.
91% of brands we cover carry a published price we could source. The gaps are not evenly spread: they cluster in the categories sold through a contractor or a dealer rather than off a shelf.

Price is the obvious one. These came out of the same research pass and are checkable against each manufacturer’s own page on the date we read it.
Heat pumps
The 10-year parts warranty is conditional on registering the unit online within 60 days of installation. Miss the window and the term drops. Most homeowners never hear about it from the installer.

Neither the air conditioner nor the heat pump range page states warranty terms at all. Both link to a warranty lookup tool instead. The range spans 14.5 to 21.0 SEER2 under one badge, so a quote without a model number is not comparable to anything.

The range page publishes an efficiency span of 13.4 to 23.6 SEER2 but no warranty terms. That span is the difference between a basic and a premium system under one brand name.

No warranty term stated on the product pages, in a price tier where the warranty is the main differentiator. Prices also do not track wattage: the 9,000W open-frame is $999 while the 9,500W inverter is $2,499.

No NSF/ANSI certification. The company commissions its own laboratory testing and states it exceeds NSF standards, which is a different claim from being certified to one. The longest published test ran to 200 gallons. Standalone replacement elements have been out of production under an EPA stop-sale order that was still unresolved at the Fifth Circuit in 2026.

Neither publishes a price anywhere, from the manufacturer or its dealer network, and neither publishes warranty terms. Price discovery falls entirely on the buyer, which is where overpaying happens.

The counter-example. It publishes a starting MSRP for all eight series, from $6,749 to $22,499. In the dealer-acrylic lane that is close to unique, and it is the reason a buyer can walk into that quote conversation with a reference number.

A brand counts as priced when our page carries a figure we read from the manufacturer or its retail channel, with the source link and the date on the entry. It counts as unpriced when we could not find a public figure and the page says so.
This measures what a buyer can find published. It is not a claim that an unpriced brand is hiding something, and it is not a claim that a brand without published warranty terms has no warranty. Contractor-sold equipment genuinely does not have a single installed price, which is why heat pumps and air conditioning account for six of the fifteen.
We also did not audit the warranty statement of all 160 brands. The findings above are the ones we verified first-hand during the August 2026 research pass, each with the page we read it from. A wider warranty audit would need every entry checked by hand, and we would rather publish the smaller number we can stand behind.
We do not sell any of these products and we take no money to move a brand up a page. If you find a number here that is wrong, tell us and we will correct it with the source.
The categories with the least published pricing are the ones where a quote arrives with the most room in it. Every guide in the network reads quotes free, in the category it covers.
